ニュージーランド・南島のクック山以南に分布しています。３９種ほどあるアキフィラ属の中でも最も大きくなり、高さは３メートルになります。青緑色をした槍状の葉は硬質で、鋭く長い棘があります。１２月から１月ごろ、４メートルにもなる花茎を伸ばして、大きな花序に黄色い花を咲かせます。 |

The Giant spaniard (Aciphylla scott-thomsonii) belongs to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed southward from Mount Cook on the South Island of New Zealand. It is the largest of the 39 species of the genus Akifira, with a height of 3 m. The turquoise spear-shaped leaves are hard and have sharp, long spines. From December to January, the flower stalks, which are as long as 4 m, are extended and yellow flowers bloom in large inflorescences. |
