ブラジルが原産です。茎はか細くて奔放に伸びます。葉は明るい緑色で軟毛が生え、輪生します。直径７〜８センチほどの赤紫色をした漏斗形の花を咲かせます。壁面のカスケードやハンギングバスケットなどに利用されるそうです。和名では「むらさきありあけかずら（紫有明葛）」と呼ばれます。

キョウチクトウ科アリアケカズラ属の常緑半蔓性低木で、学名は Allamanda violacea。英名は Purple allamanda。

Purple allamanda (Allamanda violacea) belongs to the Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Brazil. The stems are slender and outspread freewheelingly. The leaves are light green, pubescent, and whorled. The flowers are magenta, funnel-shaped, and 7-8 cm across. This small tree is used as a cascade or hanging bascket.
