南アフリカのケープ地方の東部から南西部に広く分布しています。砂礫地に生え、無茎です。葉は長さ30センチほどで、縁はピンク色に隈取られ、細かい棘があります。冬に花茎を伸ばして、赤橙色の筒状花を咲かせます。園芸上は「じこうにしき(慈光錦)」と呼ばれます。 
ユリ科アロエ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Aloe striata。英名は Coral aloe。 
The Coral aloe (Aloe striata) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is widely distributed in the eastern and southwestern Cape region of South Africa. It grows in sandy gravel, and is stemless. The leaves are about 30 cm long with pink shaded edges and fine spines. In winter, it grows flower stalks and produces reddish-orange tubular flowers. It is called "Jiko-nishiki" in horticultural terms in Japan.
