The Cape weed (Arctotheca calendula) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. This herb lays without stems and spreads to about 50 cm in diameter. The slightly silvery leaves cut deeply and form a rosette at the base. The flowering season is long, and bloom bright yellow flower-heads from April to October. The flower opens in the daytime and closes at night. In a warm area, it can pass the winter on the open ground.
