 ブラジル原産の大型のつる性植物です。温度があればよく成長し、
春から秋まで開花します。３０センチにもなる大きな褐色の萼が、花
びらのように見えます。ウマノスズクサ属の植物は日本にも自生して
いますが、アリストロキア酸という腎障害を引き起こす有毒物質が含
まれます。
ウマノスズクサ科ウマノスズクサ属の小低木で、学名は Aristolochia
gigantea。英名はありません。
Aristolochia gigantea belongs to the Aristolochiaceae (the Birthwort
family). It is a deciduous shrub that is native to Brazil. This shrub is a vine
and growing well if the temperature keeps comfortable. The flowers come
from spring to fall. The large calyx up to 30 cm long looks like a petal.
Aristolochia genus grows also naturally in Japan, and contains the toxic
aristolochic acid, which harms the kidneys to humans.
