北アメリカから中央アメリカに広く分布する「てんにんぎく（Gaillardia pulchella）」と、アメリカ北・西部に分布するアリスタータ種（Gaillardia aristata）との種間交雑種です。高さは６０〜９０センチほどになり、直径６センチほどの黄色に赤色の覆輪の花を咲かせます。写真中１の品種は、イギリスで作出された「ファンファーレ（cv. Fanfare）」、舌状花が筒状になっているのが特徴です。写真中２〜中４の品種は「コボルド（cv. Kobold）」。

キク科テンニンギク属の多年草で、学名は Gaillardia x grandiflora。英名は Blanket flower、Indian blanket。

The blanket flower (Gaillardia x grandiflora) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is an interspecific hybrid between Gaillardia pulchella (native to North and Central America) and Gaillardia aristata (native to the northern and western United States). This herb can reach 60-90 cm in height. The flower head is yellow with red variegated margin about 6 cm across. The 2nd photo is a cultivar 'Fanfare', the 3rd to 5th photos are a cultivar 'Kobold'.
