The Fetterbush (Leucothoe racemosa) belongs to Eriaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed in the eastern to south-central United States, from New York State to Florida and Texas. It grows in swamps and moist shrublands and grows to a height of 3.6 m. The bark is light brown and smooth. The leaves are ovate to lance-shaped, alternate, with serrulate margins. From May to June, racemes emerge from the base of new branches and produce white bell-shaped flowers. The fruits are capsules that ripen to brown in fall.
