 わが国が原産の柑橘系の果樹です。発見されたのは江戸時代の終
わり、広島県因島市田熊町の浄土寺に実生から成長した原木があ
りました。いまでは「ぶんたん（Citrus grandis）」の雑種と考えられてい
ます。５月ごろに芳香のある白い花を咲かせ、果実は１２月には熟し
ます。ふつうは収穫後、しばらく酸抜きのために貯蔵してから出荷す
るそうです。
ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus hassaku。
英名は Hassaku orange。
Hassaku orange belongs to the Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small
evergreen tree that is native to Japan. The tree from the original seed was
discoverd in the Jodo temple at Taguma-town of Innoshima City of
Hiroshima Prefecture in the last days of Edo Era (about 150 years ago). It
is thought that the Hassaku orange is a hybrid of "Buntan" (Citrus grandis).
Fragrant white flowers come in May and the fruits ripen in December.
Fruits are usually shipped after storage for acid reducing.
