わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北から東北地方南部に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の砂礫地や岩場に生え、高さは10〜40センチになります。「ひめしゃじん(姫沙参)」の一品種で、葉の幅が0.8センチ以下で線形なのが特徴です。8月から9月ごろ、総状花序をだし、鐘形の紫色の花を咲かせます。 
キキョウ科ツリガネニンジン属の多年草で、学名は Adenophora nikoensis f. linearifolia。英名はありません。 
"FHosoba-hime-shajin" (Adenophora nikoensis f. linearifolia) belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and is distributed from the Chubu region north to the southern Tohoku region of Honahu. It grows in subalpine to alpine areas in sandy or rocky terrain and grows 10 to 40 cm tall. It is a variety of "Hime-shajin", characterized by its linear leaves less than 0.8 cm wide, and it produces bell-shaped purple flowers in racemes from August to September.
