ヨーロッパから西アジアに分布する「アップルミント(Mentha suaveolens)」の交配種です。葉は卵形で、白色またはクリーム色の斑が入り、軟毛が生えています。かすかなパイナップルの香りがあり、ハーブティーやビネガー、魚料理などに利用されます。7月から9月ごろ、茎の先端に穂状花序をだし、小さな白い花を咲かせます。 
シソ科ハッカ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Mentha suaveolens var. variegata。英名は Pineapple mint。 
The pineapple mint (Mentha suaveolens var. variegata) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is a variety of "Apple mint" (Mentha suaveolens). The leaves are ovate and have white or cream mottles. They are covered with soft hairs. The plants have a flavor of pineapple and used for herbal tea, vinegar or fish dish. The spikes are borne on the stem apices and bloom small white flowers from July to September.
