近年、メキシコ中部のモクテスマ（Moctezuma）渓谷で発見された新種ですが、ダム建設によって自生地が水没し、絶滅したと言われています。熱帯高山性の「むしとりすみれ（虫取り菫）」で、葉は披針形で細長くなります。明るいピンクの大きな花を咲かせますが、適当な温度と湿度があれば、一年中咲き続けます。

タヌキモ科ムシトリスミレ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Pinguicula moctezumae。英名は Butterwort。

The Butterwort (Pinguicula moctezumae) belongs to Lentibulariaceae (the Bladderwort family). It is a perennial herb that is a new species recently discovered in the Moctezuma Valley of central Mexico, but is said to have become extinct after the construction of a dam submerged its native habitat. It is a tropical alpine "butterwort" with lanceolate, elongated leaves. It produces large bright pink flowers that bloom all year round as long as there is appropriate temperature and humidity.
