ヨーロッパからアジアに分布するウェリス種（Primula veris）とエラチオール種（Primula elatior）それにウルガリス種（Primula vulgaris）の種間交雑種と考えられています。高さは３０センチほどになり、卵状楕円形の葉が根生します。ほとんど花茎が伸びない品種もあります。１１月から５月ごろ、花茎の先の散形花序に色とりどりの花を咲かせます。赤色やピンク色、白色に黄色、紫色などと多彩です。耐寒性がある反面、わが国での夏越えは難しく一年草扱いになっています。 |

The Polyanthus primrose (Primula polyantha) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is thought to be an interspecific hybrid between Primula veris, Primula elatior and Primula vulgaris. They are native to Europe and Asia. This herb can reach about 30 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-elliptic and basal. There are varieties which are little or nothing growing floral stems. The multicolor flowers bloom in the umbels from November to May. There are also many flower colors, such as red, pink, white, yellow or purple. This herb is cold tolerant, then again it is difficult to pass the summer in Japan. |
