Calliandra tweedii

The Trinidad flame bush (Calliandra tweedii) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Brazil. It grows 3 to 4 m tall and has pinnate compound leaves. It produces flowers with no petals and bright red stamens that look like powder puffs. The bean pods have capsules that warp when they split open. The specific epithet is derived from the Scottish botanist John Tweedie (1775-1862).
