Crinum pedunculatum

The Swamp lily (Crinum pedunculatum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the eastern part of Australia, from Queensland to New South Wales. It grows in coastal wetlands and along riverbanks and grows to about 1.5 m tall. It produces numerous broadly linear leaves from a thick pseudostem. The upper leaves are erect, while the lower ones are spreading. In summer, it grows long flower stalks and produces large umbels. Each inflorescence produces 10 to 40 white flowers. The filaments are pink to red or purple. It is a close relative of "Hama-omoto" (Crinum asiaticum var. japonicum), which grows wild in Japan.
