ブラジルが原産のアナナスの仲間ですが、熱帯雨林ではなく、乾いた森に生えています。葉には短いシャープな棘があり、薄葉のものはきれいに着色します。また厚葉の種類は乾燥に強いようです。ある程度成長すると、小さな白い花を咲かせます。 写真は園芸品種で、 写真上は「フォイエルツァウバー（cv. Feuerzauber）」、 中１は「ル・レイ（cv. le Rey）」、 中２は「マリア・オッペンハイマー（cv. Maria Oppenheimer）」、 下は「イット（cv. It）」。 |

パイナップル科クリプタンツス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Cryptanthus sp.（属の総称）。英名は Earth star。 |

The Earth star (Cryptanthus sp.) belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen perennial that is a member of the Ananas family, native to Brazil, but grows in dry forests, not tropical rainforests. The leaves have short, sharp spines, and the thin-leaved ones are nicely colored. The thick-leaved variety seems to be more tolerant of drought. When it grows to a certain degree, it produces small white flowers. The photos show garden varieties: the top photo is 'Feuerzauber', the 2nd one is 'le Rey', the 3rd one is 'Maria Oppenheimer', and the bottom one is 'It'. |
