北アメリカの西部、ブリティッシュコロンビア州からカリフォルニア州に分布しています。林やシャパレルの日陰に生え、高さは３０〜９０センチになります。葉は卵形で、ほとんどが基部のあたりにつきます。４月から５月ごろ、円錐花序に花を咲かせます。花は明るい青色から暗青色で、真ん中に白色の副花冠がつきます。果実は、わずかに剛毛の生えた４個の小堅果の集まりです。

Pacific hound's tongue (Cynoglossum grande) belongs to the Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is a perennial herb that is native to western North America from British Columbia to California. This herb grows in shady areas in woodland and chaparral, and can reach 30-90 cm in height. The leaves are ovate and mostly located around the base of the plant. The flowers bloom in a panicle from April to May. They are bright to deep blue with white coronas at the center. The fruit is an array of four slightly bristly nutlets.
