	わが国の本州、近畿地方以西から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。常緑樹林の林内や林縁に生え、他の樹木などに絡みついてよじ登ります。葉は楕円形で対生し、地面を這うときは小さくて斑が入りますが、林冠など上部にある場合は大きく、斑がありません。葉の裏面や花柄などに毛があります。５月から６月ごろ、枝先や葉腋に集散花序をだし、白い花を咲かせます。花筒基部の細い部分と上部の太い部分がほぼ同じ長さなのが特徴です。よく似た「ていかかずら」では細い部分がうんと長くなっています。欧米では、数世紀前から庭園用に植栽されてきました。
	キョウチクトウ科テイカカズラ属の常緑蔓性低木で、学名は Trachelospermum jasminoides var. pubescens。英名は Star jasmine、Confederate jasmine。
	The star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides var. pubescens) belongs to Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is an evergreen woody vine that is distributed westward from Kinki district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and China. This vine grows in evergreen forests or forest edges, and climbs up adjacent trees. The leaves are elliptic, arranged in opposite. They have whitish patches in cases where creeping on forest floors, and not have in case where situated in tree crowns. The rear surfaces of leaves and peduncles are hairy. The cymes are borne in the terminal branches or axils and the white flowers bloom from May to June. It is defined that the part of thin corolla tube is about the same length as the part of thick one. Star jasmine has been planted in gardens after several centuries ago in Europe and the United States.
