わが国の本州、中北部から北海道、南千島、サハリンに分布しています。海岸の草地から山地に生え、高さは50〜100センチになります。葉は長楕円形から披針形で、2回羽状深裂します。基部はやや茎を抱きます。7月から9月ごろ、茎頂に散房花序をだし、白色から淡紅色の頭花を咲かせます。
キク科ノコギリソウ属の多年草で、学名は Achillea alpina ssp. japonica。英名はありません。
"Kita-nokogiri-so" (Achillea alpina ssp. japonica) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from north-eastern Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the southern Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. This herb grows in coastal grasslands or mountains, and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are oblong to lanceolate, and twice deep pinnately. Their bases enfold stems slightly. The corymbs are borne on the stem apices and the white to pale rose pink flower-heads bloom from July to September.
