The Shrimp plant (Beloperone guttata) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is small evergreen tree that is native to Mexico. This tree was introduced into Japan in early Showa Era (about 80 years old), and has been cultivated in the greenhouses for pot plants and flora arts. White flowers with purplish brown spots come in winter, covered with flower-like visible bracts. "Shrimp plant" is named from shrimp-tail shaped, describing the shape of the bracts.
