わが国の本州中部、伊吹山に分布しています。石灰岩地に生え、高さは50〜100センチになります。茎葉は長楕円形で羽状に中裂します。9月から10月ごろ、枝先に数多くの頭花を上向きに咲かせます。総苞は筒状で粘ります。 
キク科アザミ属の多年草で、学名は Cirsium confertissimum。英名はありません。 
"Ko-ibuki-azami" (Cirsium confertissimum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to Mt. Ibuki in central Honshu, Japan. It grows on limestone ground and grows 50 to 100 cm tall. The cauline leaves are oblong and pinnately lobed, and numerous flower heads bloom upward at the ends of the branches from September to October. The involucre is tubular and persistent.
