The Popcorn cassia (Cassia didymobotrya) belongs to the family Caesalpiniaceae. It is a small deciduous tree that is native to central Africa. It grows 2 to 4 m tall and produces bright yellow flowers in late summer and fall. It is also called "popcorn cassia" because the leaves smell like popcorn when rubbed. In Kenya, it is used for milk preservation treatment. The Japanese name "koyashi-senna" comes from the fact that it is also used for green manure.
