メキシコ中部のヒダルゴ州とケレタロ州に分布しています。茎は鉛筆から指に似た形までざざまです。疣(いぼ)は、螺旋状に生える軟らかい棘に被われています。棘の色は黄色から赤色まであります。春に淡い黄白色の花を咲かせます。写真下は園芸品種の「クリスタータ(cv. Cristata)」。
サボテン科マミラリア属の疣サボテンで、学名は Mammilaria elongata。英名は Golden stars、Lady fingers。
The golden stars (Mammilaria elongata) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen succulent perennial that is native to central Mexico, Hidalgo and Queretaro. The stems are variable in shape from pencil to finger-like. The nipples are arranged in perfect spirals, and the spines on each of them are arranged as a star. The spines vary in color from yellow to red. The pale yellowish-white flowers bloom in spring. The bottom photo is a cultivar 'Cristata'.
