熱帯アメリカのコスタリカが原産です。蔓性で５〜７．５メートルほど伸びます。葉は心形で互生します。初夏から晩秋にかけて、２個の大きなモーブ色の苞が目立つ花を咲かせます。花は小さくて花弁はありません。「ダルシャンピア」や「ダレカンピア」、「パープルウィング」とも呼ばれます。

トウダイグサ科ダレカンピア属の常緑低木で、学名は Dalechampia dioscoreifolia。英名は Costa Rican butterfly vine。

The Costa Rican butterfly vine (Dalechampia dioscoreifolia) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Costa Rica in tropical America. This vine grows 5-7.5 m in length. Leaves are cordate and alternate. During early summer to late fall, flowers with distinct mauve paired bracts are seen. The flower is small, and the petal is absent.
