めんやだけ (女矢竹)

わが国の本州から四国、九州に分布する「やだけ（矢竹）」の一品種です。桿は真っ直ぐに伸び、高さは３〜５メートルほどになります。桿の断面は円形で、節間は長く、「やだけ」に似ていますが枝は各節から数個がでます。竹材も「やだけ」より柔らかいそうです。 |

イネ科ヤダケ属の常緑タケ類で、学名は Pseudosasa japonica f. pleioblastoides。英名はありません。 |

"Men-yadake" (Pseudosasa japonica f. pleioblastoides) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bumboo that is a variety of "yadake" (arrow bamboo) distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan. The culm grows straight and can reach a height of 3 to 5 m. The cross section of the culm is circular and the internodes are long, similar to the "yadake", but several branches are produced from each node. The bamboo wood is said to be softer than that of the "yadake". |
