わが国の本州、中部地方の日本海側以西から四国北部、九州北部に分布しています。丘陵や山地に生え、高さは2メートルほどになります。幹は直立し、枝には大小のかぎ状の棘と腺毛が生えます。葉は奇数羽状複葉で倒卵状楕円形から長楕円形の小葉が5〜9個つきます。6月から7月ごろ、枝先に円錐花序をだし、直径2〜3センチの白色の花を咲かせます。果実は卵球形の偽果で、秋に赤く熟します。
バラ科バラ属の落葉低木で、学名は Rosa paniculigera。英名はありません。
"Miyako-ibara" (Rosa paniculigera) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed westward from the Japan Sea side of central Honshu to northern Shikoku, northern Kyushu in Japan. This tree grows in hillsides and mountains and can reach about 2 m in height. The stem is erect, the branches have large and small hooked prickles and glandular hairs. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound with 5-9 obovate-elliptic to oblong leaflets. The panicles are borne on the terminal branches and bloom white flowers 2-3 cm across from June to July. The fruits are ovate-round false fruits and ripen red in fall.
