わが国の本州、福島県以西からの太平洋側、それに四国・四国に分布しています。山地の半日陰の林内に生え、高さは5〜12センチになります。葉は披針形です。3月から5月ごろ、淡い藤色の花を咲かせます。 
スミレ科スミレ属の多年草で、学名は Viola bisseti。英名はありません。 
"Nagabano-sumire-saishin" (Viola bisseti) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is native from Fukushima prefecture to the Pacific Ocean Side of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in semi-shade places of forests, and it can reach 5-12 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate. The pale violet flowers bloom from March to May.
