わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道に分布しています。明るい湿った草原に群生し、高さは４０〜６０センチになります。葉身は直立し１回羽状複葉です。下部の羽片は短くなり、葉脈は単条です。夏緑性のシダ類で、中軸や葉柄には細かい毛が密生します。

ヒメシダ科ヒメシダ属のシダ類で、学名は Thelypteris nipponica。英名はありません。

"Nikko-shida" (Thelypteris nipponica) belongs to the family Thelypteridaceae. It is a fern that is distributed from the Chubu region of Honshu northward to Hokkaido in Japan. It grows in clusters in light, moist grasslands and grows 40 to 60 cm tall. The leaf blade is erect and once pinnately compound. The lower pinnae are shortened and the veins are single. The rachis and petiole are densely covered with fine hairs.
