アカネ科コーヒーノキ属の常緑低木で、学名は Coffea canephora。英名は Robusta coffee。
The Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is a small evergreen tree that is said to be native to Congo in West Africa. It is now widely cultivated in tropical Africa and Southeast Asia. It is an extremely strong tree that grows straight and can reach 3 to 6 m in height. The flowers are white and fragrant. Due to its strong bitterness and richness, it is used for blending canned coffee and instant coffee. It is also known as the "Congo coffee tree".
