インドが原産です。成長が早く、高さは１〜２メートルほどになります。卵形の葉は濃緑色で小さな鋸歯があり、対生します。白っぽい葉脈が浮きだっています。冬のはじめに、上部の葉腋に短い花序をだし、青紫色の花を咲かせます。

キツネノマゴ科エランテムム属の常緑小低木で、学名は Eranthemum pulchellum。英名は Blue sage。

The Blue sage (Eranthemum pulchellum) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Ruellia family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to India. This shrub grows fast and can reach 1-2 m in height. The leaves are ovate, dark green with small toothed edges, and arranged in oppsite. The whitish veins are stood out. In the beginning of winter, the blue-purple flowers bloom in the short clusters which bear at upper axils.
