シンビジウム属は、東南アジアからヒマラヤ、アッサム地方の高原地帯に分布しています。属名は、古代ギリシャ語で舟の形を意味する花披のかたちから。園芸品種も数多く作出され、花色もピンク色や赤色、黄色、白色、グリーンなどと多彩です。いまでは組織培養技術が普及したため、代表的な鉢物となっています。また年末に開花させるために、夏のあいだ標高の高い所へ運ぶ、山上げ栽培が行われています。 |

ラン科シュンラン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Cymbidium（属の総称）。英名は Cymbidium。 |

The Cymbidium genus belongs to the Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native from Southeast Asia to the Himalaya, Assam highland region. The genus "Cymbidium" named from the ancient Greek "kymbes" meaning of boat-shaped, describing the shape of the lip. Many cultivars are breeded, and many flower colors are present such as pink, red, yellow, white or green. Cymbidium is one of typical pot flowers nowadays. In addition, in order to make it bloom at the end of the year, mountain-raising cultivation is carried out, which is carried to high altitudes during the summer. |
