アメリカの南東部から中南部に分布しています。草原に生え、高さは６０〜１５０センチになります。葉は線形から披針形で対生します。７月から１０月ごろ、茎の上部に青色の花を輪生状に咲かせます。下唇は上唇よりも大きく、雄しべは２個あります。

シソ科アキギリ属の多年草で、学名は Salvia azurea。英名は Blue sage、Azure-blue sage。

The Blue sage (Salvia azurea) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the south-eastern and central-southern United States. This herb grows in grasslands and can reach 60-150 cm in height. The leaves are linear to lanceolate and opposite. The blue flowers come in whorled clusters of the upper stems from July to October. The lower lip is larger than the upper lip, and having two stamens.
