 ニワゼキショウ属は、アメリカ大陸とその周辺に１００種ほどが分布し
ています。わが国でも「にわぜきしょう（Sisyrinchium atlanticum）」が広く
帰化しています。写真は園芸品種の「カリフォルニアスカイ（cv.
California Sky）」。高さは２０〜２５センチで、４月から５月ごろ、鮮や
かな空色の花を咲かせます。
アヤメ科ニワゼキショウ属の多年草で、学名は Sisyrinchium sp.（属の
総称）。英名は Blue-eyed grass。
Blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium sp.) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It
is a perennial herb that is distributed mainly in the New World, and
adjacent areas about 100 species. Eastern blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium
atlanticum) is naturalized widely into Japan. The photos are a cultivar
'California Sky'. This cultivar can reach 20-25 cm in height, and bright sky-
blue flowers bloom from April to May.
