アメリカの東部から中南部に分布しています。林縁や野原に生え、蔓性で匍匐して長さは３０〜１８０センチになります。茎には下向きの棘が生えています。葉は掌状複葉で、小葉は３〜５個つきます。３月から４月ごろ、白色の花をひとつずつ咲かせます。花弁はしわくちゃにした紙のようです。果実は集合果で、６月から７月に黒色に熟します。パイやコブラーなどの原料になります。

バラ科キイチゴ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Rubus trivialis。英名は Southern dewberry。

The Southern dewberry (Rubus trivialis) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a deciduous trailing vine that is native to the eastern and central-southern United States. This vine grows in woodland margines or fields and can reach 30-180 cm long. The stems have prickles that are retrorse (pointing downward). The leaves are palmately compound with 3-5 leaflets. The solitary white flower comes in March to April. The petals are crumpled like paper. The fruits are aggregate and ripen black in June to July. They provide the raw material for pies and cobblers.
