アメリカの東南部から中南部に分布しています。山地の林内や林縁に生え、高さは６メートルほどになります。樹皮は灰色で、長方形に割れ目が入ります。葉は楕円形で対生し、縁には細かい鋸歯があります。また裏面や葉柄には錆色の毛が密生します。秋には鮮やかな赤色に紅葉します。春、枝先の散房花序に小さな白い花を咲かせます。果実は核果で夏の終わりから秋に青色に熟し、食べることができます。別名で「ラスティブラックホー」とも呼ばれます。

スイカズラ科ガマズミ属の落葉低木で、学名は Viburnum rufidulum。英名は Southern blackhaw、Rusty blackhaw。

The southern blackhaw (Viburnum rufidulum) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from southeast to middle south in the United States. This tree grows in forests and forest edges in the mountains and is about 6 m high. The bark is gray with a rectangular crack. The leaves are ovate and opposite, with fine serrations on the edges. In addition, rust-colored hair is dense on the back and petioles. The leaves turn bright red in fall. In spring, small white flowers come on the corymbs of the branches. The fruits are drupes and ripen in blue from late summer to autumn and are edible.
