ヨーロッパから中央アジアが原産です。道端や荒れ地などに生え、高さは50センチほどになります。茎は基部で分枝し、地面を這います。葉は腎円形で、浅く5〜9裂します。5月から9月ごろ、葉腋に白色またはピンク色や紫色がかった花を咲かせます。果実は扁円形で、12〜15個の分果に分かれます。
アオイ科ゼニアオイ属の一年草または二年草で、学名は Malva neglecta。英名は Common mallow。
The Common mallow (Malva neglecta) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an annual or a biennial herb that is native to Europe and Central Asia. This herb grows on roadsides and waste places, and can reach about 50 cm in height. The stem is branched at the base and lying close to the ground. The leaves are reniform-round and shallowly 5-9 lobed. The white or tinged pink or purple flowers come in axiles from May to September. The fruits are flattened-round and composed of 12-15 segments.
