ヨーロッパの中部から西部に分布しています。丘陵から高山帯の草地に生え、高さは10〜30センチになります。全体に無毛で、マット状に広がります。葉は線形で、青緑色をしています。晩春から夏にかけて、茎頂に紅紫色の花を咲かせます。萼片は紫褐色です。写真は園芸品種で、淡いピンク色をした「バスピンク(cv. Bath's Pink)」。 
ナデシコ科ナデシコ属の多年草で、学名は Dianthus gratianopolitanus。英名は Cheddar pink。 
The Cheddar pink (Dianthus gratianopolitanus) belongs to Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from central to western Europe. It grows from hills to alpine grasslands and can reach 10 to 30 cm in height. It is hairless throughout and spreads like a mat. The leaves are linear and turquoise. Magenta flowers bloom on the shoot apex from late spring to summer. The calyx is purple-brown. The photos are a gardening variety 'Bath's Pink' with a pale pink color.
