南アメリカのブラジルが原産です。現在では各地で、園芸用として栽培されていますが、しばしば野生化しています。葉は扁平な線形で、長さは４０センチほどになります。７月から１０月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして白色の花を咲かせます。鱗茎にはアルカロイドが含まれ、誤って食べると嘔吐や痙攣などを起こします。属名は、ギリシャ語の西風（zephyros）と花（anthos）から。

ユリ科タマスダレ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Zephyranthes candida。英名は Zephyr flower、Zephyr lily、 Fairy lily。

The zephyr flower (Zephyranthes candida) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to South America; Brazil. It is cultivated as a garden plant, though it often runs in wild. The leaves are flat linear and can reach 40 cm long. The flowering stalk is borne and blooms white flower. The bulbs contain alkaloids and cause vomiting and convulsion after accidental eating. The genus "Zephyranthes" named from the Greek "zephyros" (west wind) and "anthos" (flower).
