わが国の本州、福島県以西から四国・九州に分布する「けねざさ（毛根笹）」の園芸品種です。桿の高さは２０〜５０センチになり、葉は披針形で、白色から淡黄色の縦縞が入ります。葉の裏面にはビロード状の毛が生えます。庭園に植栽されますが、お正月の寄せ植えにも利用されます。

イネ科メダケ属の常緑タケ類で、学名は Pleioblastus fortunei f. pubescens cv.。英名は Dwarf whitestripe bamboo。

The Dwarf whitestripe bamboo (Pleioblastus fortunei f. pubescens cv.) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bamboo that is a cultivar of "Ke-nezasa" distributed from Fukushima prefecture of Honshu west to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. The height of the rod is 20 to 50 cm, the leaves are lanceolate, with vertical stripes of white to pale yellow. Velvety hair grows on the underside of the leaves. It is planted in the garden, but it is also used for New Year's group planting.
