 
 南アメリカのブラジル南部からウルグアイ、アルゼンチンに分布して
います。「ブラジルやし」に近縁で、高さは１０〜１２メートルになりま
す。葉は羽状複葉で、長さは１．８メートルほどです。小葉は青緑色
で、縁には細かい棘状の鋸歯があります。果実は球形の液果で橙色
に熟し、食用になります。氷点下９℃くらいの耐寒性があり、わが国
でも屋外に植栽されます。
ヤシ科ブラジルヤシ属の常緑小高木で、学名は Butia yatay。
英名は Yatay palm, Yatay。
Yatay palm belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a semi-tall
evergreen tree that is native to South America; from southern Brazil to
Uruguay and Argentina. This tree is closely related to Jelly palm and can
reach 10-12 m in height. The leaves are pinnate and about 1.8 m long. The
leaflets are bluish-green with fine spiny toothed edges. The fruits are round
berries, ripen in orange and edible. This palm is tolerant of cold about -9
degree centigrade.
