東アフリカのケニア・タンザニアからジンバブエに分布しています。乾燥した土地に生え、高さは１．５〜２メートルになります。茎が肥大した多肉植物で、多くの短い枝を出します。葉は楕円形で、枝先にかたまってつきます。英名では「デザートローズ」と呼ばれますが、名前のとおり鮮やかなバラ色の花を咲かせます。

キョウチクトウ科アデニウム属の常緑低木で、学名は Adenium obesum。英名は Desert rose。

The desert rose (Adenium obesum) belongs to Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from Kenya and Tanzania to Zimbabwe in eastern Africa. This tree grows in arid areas and can reach 1.5-2 m in height. This tree is a succulent plant and the swollen stems have many short branches. The leaves are elliptic and clustered on the terminal branches. The flowers bloom a bright-rose color. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
