アメリカすずかけのき (アメリカ鈴懸の木)

北アメリカの東部が原産です。湿り気のある森林や肥沃地に生え、高さは２０〜３０メートルになります。大木になると樹皮は暗褐色になり、剥離したりタテにひび割れたりします。葉は卵形で、３〜５裂します。環境汚染や刈り込みに強く、ニューヨークでも街路樹として植栽されています。ふつうに「プラタナス」と呼ばれる樹木のひとつです。 |

スズカケノキ科スズカケノキ属の落葉高木で、学名は Platanus occidentalis。英名は American sycamore、Buttonwood。 |

The American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) belongs to the Platanaceae (the Plane-tree family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to eastern North America. This tree grows in wettish forests and on fertile soils, and can reach 20-30 m in height. The barks are dark brown and furrowed longitudially when it become a big tree. The leaves are ovate and divided into 3-5 clefts. American sycamore is planted as a roadside tree in New York, because of high tolerance for pruning and aerial pollution. |
