メキシコからアメリカのデラウエア州、メキシコ湾岸から大西洋岸の海岸平野に分布しています。道ばたや荒れ地などに生え、長さは数メートルになります。葉は披針形から広楕円形、卵形で対生します。春に葉腋から集散花序をだし、緑黄色の花を咲かせます。花冠の先端は5裂し、内側にはオレンジ色の筋が入ります。和名は、標準ではなく暫定名(provisional name)です。
キョウチクトウ科テイカカズラ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Trachelospermum difforme。英名は Climbing dogbane, Climbing star-jasmine。
Climbing dogbane (Trachelospermum difforme) belongs to Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is a deciduous semi-woody vine that is native to the Gulf and the Atlantic coastal plains; from Mexico to Delaware of the United States. This vine grows in roadsides or disturbed areas and can reach several meters long. The leaves are lanceolate to broad elliptic, ovate and opposite. The greenish-yellow flowers come in the axilar cymes in spring. The corolla is 5-lobed and striped with orange inside.
