アメリカのロッキー山脈、モンタナ州から南にニューメキシコ州、それに西へはアイダホ州・アリゾナ州まで分布しています。高山に生え、高さは２０〜６０センチになります。葉は２回羽状複葉で、濃い緑色です。小葉には葉柄があります。花の色は非常に変化があり、淡青色から白色、淡黄色、ピンク色がかったものなどで、５月から６月に咲きます。コロラド州の州花です。

キンポウゲ科オダマキ属の多年草で、学名は Aquilegia caerulea。英名は Colorado blue columbine。

Colorado blue columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Rocky Mountains from Montana south to New Mexico and west to Idaho and Arizona. This herb grows in high mountains, and it can reach 20-60 cm in height. The leaves are bipinnate and dark-green. The leaflets are petiolate. The flowers are very variable in color, from pale blue to white, pale yellow and pinkish, and bloom from May to June. Colorado blue columbine is the state flower of Colorado.
