The Elleanthus genus belongs to the Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to Mexico, Central America, South America and the West Indies. About 120 species are found mainly in the Andean highlands. It is a epiphytic or terrestrial orchid and closely related to Soblralia genus. They bloom many small flowers on one spikes. The flower is consisted with the cup-shaped petals and sepals, and tubular lip with short column. The flower color is usually bright and noticeable, and pollinated by hummingbirds.
