ヨーロッパの西部、ノルウェー南西部からイタリア北西部より以西に分布しています。日当たりが良く乾いた酸性土壌に生え、よく分枝して高さは６０センチほどになります。葉は暗緑色の線形で、ふつう３輪生します。５月から９月ごろ、枝先に花序をだし、小さなベル形の花を咲かせます。花色はふつう赤紫色ですが、白色やピンク色の園芸品種もあります。 このヒースの特徴 (1) 雄しべは花冠の口から突出しない (2) 葉とがく片には毛がない (3) 高さ６０センチまでの矮性低木 (4) 茎は葉腋に短い葉の新芽を束生する (5) 濃い赤紫色の花 |

ツツジ科エリカ属の常緑低木で、学名は Erica cinerea。英名は Bell heather、Scots heath。 |

The Bell heather (Erica cinerea) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to western Europe. This tree grows in sunny arid areas, usually on acidic soils and can reach about 60 cm in height. It is much branched and the leaves are dark green linear and 3-whorled. The clusters are borne at the terminal branches and bloom small bell-shaped flowers from May to September. The flower-color is commonly magenta, though there are white or pink flower-colored cultivars. Features of this heath (1) Stamens not protruding from mouth of corolla (2) Leaves and sepals glabrous (without hairs) (3) Dwarf shrub to 60 cm (4) Stems with bunches of short, leafy shoots in leaf axils (5) Dark reddish purple flowers |
