ハワイ諸島のオアフ島、それにハワイ島やマウイ島が原産です。高さは１．２メートルほどになり、標高６００メートル以上にまで分布しています。心形の葉は明るい緑色で、縁がわずかに波打ちます。葉腋から花柄を伸ばして、「ハイビスカス」に似た小さな花を咲かせます。花色は黄色からオレンジ色をしています。オアフ州の州花で、レイの材料として使われてきました。

アオイ科キンゴジカ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Sida fallax。英名は Ilima、Yellow ilima。

The ilima (Sida fallax) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Oahu Island and Maui Island of the Hawaiian Islands. This shrub grows up to a height of about 1.2 m, and is distributed to over 600 m above sea level. The leaves are heart-shaped, bright green with slightly wavy edges. The hibiscus-like small flowers bloom on the axillary peducles. The flower-color is yellow to orange. It is a state flower of Oahu Province, and it has been used as a material for Ray.
