いぬりんご (犬林檎) [Index] [Back] 中国が原産です。そのほかの場所では、観賞用や台木として栽培されています。高さは３〜８メートルになります。葉は楕円形で鋸歯があります。４月から５月ごろ、枝先に５〜６個、花を咲かせます。花のつぼみは淡紅色ですが、開くと白色になります。果実は球形のナシ状果で、直径は２〜２．５センチで、熟すと黄色から紅色になり、先はへこみません。果実は食用になりますが、酸味が強く、わが国ではりんご飴の材料として使用されます。  パラ科リンゴ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Malus prunifolia。英名は Plumleaf crab apple、Plum-leaved apple。  The plumleaf crab apple (Malus prunifolia) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to China. It is grown elsewhere for use as an ornamental tree or as rootstock. This tree grows up 3-8 m in height. The leaves are elliptic with serrated edges. The 5 to 6 flowers come on the tip of the branches from April to May. The flower buds are pink, but when opened they turn white. The fruits are spherical pome, 2 to 2.5 cm in diameter, turn yellow to crimson when ripe, and do not dent.
