わが国の本州、三重県志摩半島の固有種です。「おとめあおい（乙女葵）」を基本種とする亜種です。山地の林床に生え、高さは５〜１０センチになります。葉は卵形から卵状楕円形で、基部は心形、しばしば雲紋状の斑が入ります。１０月から１１月ごろ、暗紫色から淡紫色の花を咲かせます。花弁はなく、萼筒の先端が３裂して平開します。雌しべは６個、雄しべが１２個あります。

ウマノスズクサ科カンアオイ属の多年草で、学名は Heterotropa savatieri ssp. pseudosavatieri var. isenum (syn. Asarum savatieri ssp. pseudosavatieri var. isenum)。英名はありません。

"Iseno-kan-aoi" (Heterotropa savatieri ssp. pseudosavatieri var. isenum) belongs to Aristolochiaceae (the Birthwort family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to the Shima Peninsula of Mie Prefecture of Honshu, Japan. It is a subspecies of the "Otome-aoi," which is the basic species. It grows on the forest floor in mountainous areas and is 5 to 10 cm tall. It produces dark purple to light purple flowers from October to November. The petals are absent, and the calyx tube is flattened with three lobes at the tip. There are 6 pistils and 12 stamens.
