"Oku-usugi-tanpopo" belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southern part of the Tohoku region of Honshu in Japan. This herb grows on grasslands and forest edges and can reach 10 to 20 cm in height. The flower heads are pale yellow, about 4 cm in diameter, and bloom from April to May. It is similar to "Sirobana-tanpopo" (Taraxacum albidum), but the yellow part in the center of the flower head is wide. The outer involcal bracts are broad-ovate and do not warp, and the triangular projections are extremely small and barely noticeable. Since it is a polyploid like other white dandelions, it is parthenogenesis. This species is pentaploid.
