わが国の各地に分布しています。山地の林縁や草地などのやや湿ったところに生え、高さは６０〜１００センチになります。葉は卵状楕円形で長い柄があり根生します。６月から８月ごろ、花茎を長く伸ばして、淡い紫色または白色の花を咲かせます。つぼみがかたまりのときは苞葉だけが開いて星形に見えます。若芽は柔らかく、東北地方で「うるい」と呼ばれる山菜のひとつです。また「山かんぴょう」の名もあり、乾燥して保存食にも利用されます。 |

ユリ科ギボウシ属の多年草で、学名は Hosta montana (syn. Hosta sieboldiana var. sieboldiana)。英名はありません。 |

The "Ooba-giboushi" (Hosta montana) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan. This herb grows in montane wettish forest edges or grasslands and can reach 60-100 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-elliptic and basal with long petioles. The pale purple to white flowers bloom on the long flowering stalks from June to August. When the buds are clustered, only the bracts open to reveal a star shape. The young shoots are tender and are one of the wild vegetables called "urui" in the Tohoku region. It is also known as "yama-kanpyo" (mountain kanpyo), and is dried and used as a preserved food. |
